I went to the market today to get some rice for the doggies and some fruit and veg for myself. When I was getting rice, I could hear very loud meows but couldn’t see a cat right away. After paying, I moved to the next aisle, and there he was.
I meowed at him, he meowed back and came to me. I picked him up. He didn’t mind. He was the cat I saw yesterday or the day before near the 7/11. One employee was outside stroking him, and when Happy joined me, the cat got scared and ran away.
I had no dog with me today, and he was happy to be picked up.
The dogs were in front of the house though, so I thought that if I carried him all the way home, that would not end well. So I asked the people at the small restaurant near the market if they could keep an eye on him while I went to get a box. They were happy to. I got home, grabbed a box, some food and a bowl, and went back. He was easy enough to put in the box.
It was dinner time for the animals at home and the sky was very dark, so I didn’t want to drive to the hospital. I asked if they could send a car. They did. With my favourite nurse/driver. I trust him to look after my animals. He’s more of a dog person, but he’s sweet with all the animals. I told him I wasn’t going to go to the hospital again today (I had already spent over an hour there earlier), he said he would take care of things.
I had to name the cat, so he’s Garfield.
He was tested for diseases, dewormed, treated with anti-parasite drops, and vaccinated. He tested positive for FeLV. Feline Leukemia. It’s not a death sentence, but he shouldn’t go back to the street, as it is contagious. Now I need the Universe to help me find a home for him. He seems like a pretty sweet cat who loves cuddles and food. I need to find a sweet person who wants to give him a safe place and some love.
He was a bit scared after being caught, but I’m going to visit him every day, and I’m sure we’ll be friends in no time.
He’s scheduled for neutering on July 4th.
I currently have 5 animals staying at the hospital (and 32 registered under my name in total). I had already paid 7,000 baht (£160) for these 5, and I was asked to pay 12,000 (£272) more today.
I’m too tired to do numbers tonight, but I’ll try to do it tomorrow. The donations received definitely cover the bills.
