This morning’s walk took an unexpected turn. I wrote about it on Instagram, so I’m going to keep this one short, because I’m exhausted and badly need to sleep. I cried a lot this morning and my eyes are struggling to stay open.
Long story short: Shorty was hiding under a car. I noticed he seemed to have some issue with his right front leg. Got closer and saw he was badly injured, like he had got caught in a wire trap. His bones were exposed, it was awful.

I gave him some food, which he ate. It was 7:20 in the morning and I was with my 2 dogs. I texted Soi Dog, but I knew they wouldn’t see my messages before 8. I also emailed because I didn’t know what else to do and couldn’t find the emergency number. The automatic email response gave me the emergency number. I called. They looked at the pictures. They said they were sending the dog catcher as soon as he started his shift at 8. I couldn’t find help to keep the dog safe somewhere until he arrived, so I sat with Shorty for over an hour. Luckily, the weather was fine. And luckily, my plans could wait.

The poor dog was in a terrible state, but he seemed fine with me stroking him and talking to him. Happy and Alien were very patient and acted as my emotional support animals. A little Thai boy came to hang out with us and distracted me by talking to me a lot. I mostly had no idea what he was saying, except when he asked me what my dogs were called. He didn’t seem to understand my Thai. My tones were probably all over the place. So, we didn’t understand each other, but somehow, his presence calmed me and I stopped crying after a while.
Soi Dog eventually arrived and took the dog to the hospital. They texted me to ask a few questions about him, and I answered the best I could. Told them this dog usually hangs out in that area with two other dogs, also infested with ticks. They told me he should be ok and that the vet will do the best they can.

I later went to the hospital to visit the cats and showed the pictures to my vet. She said if the dog was young, recovery would be easier. I also found out that there’s a vet who works at the hospital on Sundays who is actually a vet at Soi Dog. She asked me to send her pictures of the dog, so she could ask that vet for more details.
I know the vets at Soi Dog deal with a lot of injuries and emergency cases, so I am confident they are competent to treat this kind of injury. I already signaled a dog with a wire trap injury a few months ago. I don’t think it was as bad, but it wasn’t great. They picked up the dog. I didn’t see him for a while after that. Then he was limping a bit. And now he’s perfectly fine. So my fingers are crossed for Shorty, and I want to believe he’ll be fine and that will never happen to him again.
I don’t know anything about why there are wire traps in the area. I want to believe they are not meant for the dogs, but I have no idea. Maybe I’ll find out one day.
